ICON, a pioneer of 3D-printing robotics, has been revered for the 3D homes they’ve built for affordable housing communities. Co-founder and CEO Jason Ballard has said, “To address the global housing crisis, something radical and courageous needs to happen. Construction-scale 3D printing is designed to not only deliver high-quality homes faster and more affordably, but fleets of printers can change the way entire communities are built for the better.”
Their latest project is eight residential single-family homes under construction and on the market in Wimberley Springs, just 40 miles south of Austin. These homes range from four to five bedrooms, are 2,800 to 4,000 square feet and selling in the ballpark of $850,000. They’re high-performance, energy-efficient homes that leverage ICON’s technology platform, including digital architecture, design, robotic construction and low-carbon building materials.
Homebuyers can select from four different floor plans from ICON’s AlphaBeta and TextNext collections. The AlphaBeta home designs are ICON’s most spacious and luxurious collection, introducing contemporary open floor plans with light-filled interiors that blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. The TexNext home designs by world-renowned architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), honor Texas history and architectural heritage while reimagining and renewing it for the future.
Some specific features of ICON’s Wimberley Springs Home include energy efficiency, strength and durability (the printed wall system of ICON homes have been tested to withstand wind speeds of up to 250 mph), smart thermostats, a smart video doorbell, large format floor-to-ceiling windows, standing seam metal roofs and state of the art LG stainless steel appliances.
