Local authors share their talents of writing right in our own neighborhood

Amy Martin

While browsing in the Highland Village Barnes and Noble, I noticed a display that featured a local artist named Amy Martin. I spoke with the manager and asked if she was in our area. Yes, and she even comes in to sign her books from time to time. Martin’s passion for the earth and its care is evident in her latest publication called Wild DFW: Explore the Amazing Nature in and Around Dallas-Fort Worth. She is a nature enthusiast that enjoys sharing more about our wonderful north Texas environment while helping readers gain appreciation for its unique differences from other areas around this great state.

Mark Bowlin

If you are a historical fiction fan, our north Texas neighbor, Mark Bowlin, has written some military adventures that will satisfy your interest in this genre. As a retired naval officer, Bowlin is no stranger to the life of a soldier. After his military retirement, he began writing books about two Texas soldiers and their journey through wartime Europe as they experience the triumphs and heartaches with the Texas Division in World War II. Visit his website to read excerpts from his award-winning Texas Gun Club series.

Laura Riley

As a children’s book author and mother of boys, Laura Riley understands the importance of reading to children every day from books that will captivate their attention. In her book The Legend of the Stinky Sock, a boy named Conner wonders if the myth of a stinky sock’s good luck is true. Is it the lucky, stinky sock or hard work and practice that make a good baseball player a great baseball player? Riley’s dream to be an author was inspired by her own child’s joy and creativity as he composed a writing project for school.
