Roger Wise, Jr. – American Patriot
“Freedom is not Free,” are the words you will hear in nearly every conversation with Army Veteran Roger Wise, Jr. He has even crafted a special leading of the Pledge of Allegiance that is frequently requested by the groups he visits around Georgia. He exemplifies patriotism, especially to youth, in all that he does and with all that he encounters.
Roger Wise, Jr. was inducted into the Georgia Military Hall of Fame Class of 2019 for his lifetime of service to others. Since the completion of his military service in 1967, Roger has dedicated his life to volunteering and supporting a myriad of civic, charitable, military, and veteran enterprises. Veteran’s Affairs, Children’s Healthcare, Senior Aftercare Vietnam Veterans Wall in Johns Creek, Fulton County Chamber of Commerce, Roswell Rotary Club and many other organizations have benefitted from his generosity of time, talent, resources, and leadership.
He has been commended for such activities as streamlining the Veteran’s Hospital system in Georgia, working to establish Georgia Peachcare for Kids Alliance, which, in conjunction with the Shriner’s Hospital System, provides free medical care for needy children.
Roger is from Goldsboro, North Carolina. He attended Goldsboro High School and East Carolina College. He was a member of the Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
Wise had a successful thirty year career with the Ross Division of Abbott Laboratories. He retired as the Southeast Regional Manager of Academic and Government Services.
Roger and his wife, Claire Jo, have been married for fifty-three years and have lived in the Horseshoe Bend Community of North Fulton County for forty-three years. During his forty-three years in Fulton County, Roger has been a member and chairman of the Fulton County Housing Authority and the Fulton County Planning and Zoning Commission.
In January of 2022 the Mayor and City Council of Roswell, Georgia, recognized Roger as an Esteemed Veteran of Roswell Georgia.
In March 2023, the West Point Society of Atlanta presented Sgt. Roger Wise Jr. their Outstanding Georgia Citizen Award for his continued support of Georgia veterans and children. Roger is affectionately known as “Uncle Roger” to the hundreds of children he has assisted and mentored throughout Georgia for the past 35 years.
