Friendship Changes Everything

A student leader inspires belonging through meaningful friendships rooted in inclusion, kindness, and acceptance.

Some of the most meaningful friendships begin with a simple invitation to belong. For Riley Pollack, creating those opportunities has become a passion. The 17 year old Chattahoochee High School senior is serving her second year as president of the school's Best Buddies chapter, fostering friendships between neurodivergent and neurotypical students.

Best Buddies creates opportunities for students to build genuine connections while promoting inclusion and acceptance.

"Connecting others and ensuring everyone feels included means the world to me," Riley says. "I love watching my peers, whether they are older or younger, blossom when they are given the chance to participate in events like Homecoming, Special Olympics, or our homeroom hangouts. Our time together is always meaningful, filled with genuine conversation and laughter that creates lifelong memories."

She wants others to leave with a new perspective. "I hope people recognize that everyone is capable of amazing things, even if they look, sound, or live differently. Everyone has something beautiful to offer this world, and I believe everyone would be lucky to have a 'best buddy' in their life."

After graduation, Riley plans to study pediatric nursing and remain involved with Best Buddies throughout college and beyond.
