Jesse Gartman served four years in Afghanistan as a Marine after graduating from Guthrie, but like many veterans, he struggled to decide what to do with his life after the Marine Corps.

He never really expected to own a professional moving and storage business would be it, but this summer, Gartman returned home to open Sherpa Moving and Storage at 1244 NW 4th St. in Oklahoma City.

"We handle everything with kid gloves and have the most up-to-date technology, but we also provide jobs to qualified individuals. From the Marine Corps to NYC over the last 17 years, I couldn’t be more excited to come back home to Oklahoma to bring my knowledge in high quality moving services to the metro area," said Gartman.

After bouncing around California for a while, he made his way to New York City in 2007. While there, he started working with a moving company and found he was good at the trade. He started Veteran Movers NYC. The company grew - sometimes too fast - and after seven years, Gartman was ready to sell and move back to his home state.

"I thought I didn't like the moving business and that I wanted more than just moving. I never loved and respected it, but I do now. We have a vision now," Gartman said.

Sherpa Moving uses modern technology and clean new equipment to streamline the moving process for homeowners and back that with a team of professional movers who are trained and disciplined in the art of household goods relocation. And it supports veterans.

"People are more supportive of the military here too. I really love it here," he said.
