Shanon and Justin Gifford and Kids Aiden, Ewan and Ava: A family of Readers

Shannon and Justin Gifford know a thing or two about children's books. With twin boys, Aiden and Ewan, almost 4, and Ava, 1, they spend a lot of time reading with their crew. Their shelves have variety but a few of them stand out as favorites for all. Here are their top three favorites.

1. Let's Play by Hervé Tullet

This interactive book invites readers to follow along in a very hands-on way by following along with the main character, a feisty yellow dot. The fun story invites the reader to blow, push, and follow along the twisty, turny path to fun and frivolity. A must-read for the under three set.

2. Penguins Love Colors by Sarah Aspinall

Penguins Love Colors tells the not so black and white story of six creative and artistic penguins, named after flowers. Although their home is snowy white, they love to brighten it up for Mama Penguin with the colors of the rainbow.

3. Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle Illustrated by Jill McElmurry

If your little readers are animal lovers, Little Blue Truck is the perfect book to teach kindness. When the big Dump Truck rumbles rudely through, he doesn't engender any good will, but the Little Blue Truck is friendly and kind. When a muddy road traps them both, readers can see how being kind reaps greater rewards than being rude, all while accompanied by fun animal sounds and illustrations.
