Texoma residents are fortunate to have the opportunity to celebrate many extraordinary community events. Still, one of the longest-running and very best can be found each year in the city of Pottsboro.
Frontier Day has been the city’s most celebrated event since 1876. The celebration can be traced back to the annual Shawnee cattle drives, where the drives would stop and camp along the creek in Pottsboro as they made their way to Fort Worth. To celebrate the history of the drive and to bring the citizens of Pottsboro and Texoma together, the Pottsboro Chamber of Commerce holds this event each year.
According to Missy Weaver, the Director of the Pottsboro Chamber of Commerce, this event is very special. “Frontier Day is our community’s biggest annual celebration and will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2025. This year’s theme is Cowboy Boots and Community Roots. I feel like this theme captures what Pottsboro is all about, which is honoring tradition and supporting local businesses. We will have something for everyone.”
“Kids will enjoy family activities, and we will have plenty of opportunities to shop local and connect with neighbors. Frontier Village will be conducting historical re-enactments throughout the day. We will have a parade, which will kick off the day and will showcase the creativity of local businesses, organizations, and community groups. There will be an incredible car show and a huge vendor market where we will feature a wide variety of opportunities to shop local.”
When asked why Frontier Day is so important, Missy had an enthusiastic response. “Frontier Day is more than an event. It’s about bringing our community together, boosting local businesses, and creating a sense of pride in Pottsboro. It is also an opportunity for people from surrounding areas to visit and experience what makes our town special. Frontier Day is about celebrating who we are as a community - our heritage, our businesses, and the people who make Pottsboro such a special place to live.”
