The Story Behind Lloyd Family Racing

For the Lloyd family, racing isn’t just a sport—it’s a legacy in motion. Born from a lifelong passion for cars and a deep desire to connect generations, Lloyd Family Racing (LFR) began not as a business plan, but as a way to bring family and friends back together through something they all loved. Owner Doug Lloyd's journey started humbly on a farm, where mechanical skills came early. “I rebuilt my first motor when I was a freshman in high school,” he says. Inspired by a cousin who built hot rods and Sunday afternoons spent watching NASCAR after church—always rooting for Dale Earnhardt—Lloyd fell in love with the precision and grit of racing.

After becoming a young father, life took priority over racing. Still, he remained a die-hard fan. In 2001, while passing Kansas Speedway, he told his wife Lisa they’d finally see Earnhardt race in person. Sadly, that dream was cut short with Earnhardt’s tragic death. Years later, with more flexibility in life and a growing family of grandchildren, a conversation with longtime friend Carey Miller reignited the spark. Together with seasoned racer Jody Mayne, they purchased their first Northeast Big Block Modified car in 2022—and Lloyd Family Racing was born.

From the beginning, it was about fun, faith, and family. “We just wanted to learn the sport, camp out, and spend time together,” Lloyd says. But something clicked. They brought in driver Patrik Daniel in 2022, and in their second season, everything changed. Patrik pushed LFR to new heights, securing heat wins and podium finishes, with their first official win on August 4, 2023. That same year, they decided to run for the 2024 Southern States Modified Series championship.

Doug reflects on his journey with a sense of humility and purpose. A man of faith, he credits Ephesians 1:3–6 as a guiding truth in his life—a reminder that his blessings, including the racing legacy he's built, are part of a greater plan. Doug and Lisa’s grandchildren are already immersed in the world of racing, learning life skills, and staying active as they explore the sport. Their progress isn't just measured in trophies. It’s about building something meaningful for future generations. Their oldest grandson, just eight years old, is already racing quarter midgets, with others waiting in the wings. “We’ve always said America was built by people who get their hands dirty,” Lloyd explains. “At the track or in the shop, kids are learning life-long skills—not staring at screens. They’re changing tires, knocking mud off the car, and soaking it all in. The Lloyd family proves that the heart of racing lies not in the car, but in the people behind it.

From the meticulous work in the shop to the joy of late-night cookouts at the track, every member of LFR plays a role. Jody and Carey prepare the car, Lisa handles logistics, and Doug makes sure everything gets where it needs to go. Together, they’ve built more than a race team—they’ve built a community. With faith in their hearts, grit in their hands, and a growing team of future racers under their wing, Lloyd Family Racing is just getting started.

"Hard work, faith, and family drive Lloyd Family Racing—where the next generation learns to chase dreams."

"At Lloyd Family Racing, success isn’t just about wins—it’s about building faith, family bonds, and future generations."
