A leader in sustainable, organic farming, Gamble Creek Farms encompasses twenty-six acres and provides organically certified produce to area restaurants and residents. Through the investment of local restaurateur Ed Chiles and a team of professionals dedicated to using innovative clean farming techniques, Gamble Creek Farms produces seasonal outdoor crops and a large variety of microgreens and herbs grown year-round in an indoor facility.
“All our amendments are organic certified, because when you amend the soil with organics, like compost and chicken fertilizer, it feeds the biology in the ground,” explains Will Manson, former chef and current General Manager of Gamble Creek Farms. “When you don't use pesticides or herbicides, that allows the microbiology to live and thrive. The result is healthier plants, better yields, and better nutrition.”
Freshly harvested produce from the farm, as well as products sourced from other local organic, sustainable producers of chicken, eggs, beef, seafood, and more, are sold on-site at the Farm Market. The Market, which is open 7 days a week, also offers freshly baked bread and lunch specials for customers to enjoy.
“Our chef makes two to three different soups every day, one of which is vegan, and we use bread from local bread companies to make the sandwiches,” shares Will. “You can sit on our deck and look over at the farm and see the farmers in the field working. It's a very calm, peaceful, and quiet outdoor setting.”
Customers who use ingredients from Gamble Creek Farms not only support the local economy and multiple small businesses, but they also bring an elevated culinary experience to the table. “When you get something grown in healthy, pristine soil that is not loaded with chemical fertilizers, you notice the difference,” Will says. “My friends and family who come and dine at my home talk about noticing the difference in the textures and flavors of the lettuce as well as how you feel after you eat it.”
