Forshaw of St. Louis is not only a one-stop-shop for patios, fireplaces, furniture and outdoor grills -- it's also a stop for securing coziness as winter transitions to spring.
After being founded in 1871 by Joseph Forshaw, one of the company's current owners, Rick Forshaw Jr., says it's one of the oldest privately owned hearth and patio retailers in the country.
"This year, it's never too early to select and order outdoor furniture. Many people are jumping on buying different furniture, and to avoid potential supply chain issues, it's best to talk to us as soon as possible," suggests Rick.
He says contemporary style outdoor furniture in wicker, aluminum or teak is the most popular right now. They offer a variety of brands, colors and forms with durable materials for entertaining, dining and relaxing. One fresh way that some people are marrying the indoors and outdoors is by using outdoor furniture in indoor rooms.
While still living through the COVID-19 pandemic, many are seeking new ways to enjoy outdoor living spaces. Some are investing in outfitting outdoor spaces for year-round use. One trend is to get comfortable porch furniture or to carve out space in an existing planting bed for seating nooks. It's a good time to consider retractable shade fixtures, such as umbrellas and shade sails, to repel the afternoon sun. Drop-down screens can be installed to enclose patio spaces and guard against mosquitos. Fans for outdoor spots soon will be desired.
Rick says other in-demand items currently include portable mushroom patio heaters, element heaters, fire pits, fire bowls, outdoor fireplaces -- both gas and wood -- and freestanding outdoor fireplaces. He adds that Forshaw can handle construction of most of the standalone fireplaces.
The company's 22,000-square-foot showroom contains seasonal accessories, too.
