The Cottage School (TCS) is so grateful to be the recipient of 1,000 donated school supplies from FedEx Ground. The FedEx boxes and bags are a component of a company-wide effort aimed at contributing to the communities they serve across the nation. Teachers at TCS were able to submit wish lists of classroom supplies that would benefit students in their classes.
All students grades 3-12, teachers and staff of TCS were in attendance to accept these gifts from FedEx Ground, wearing purple TCS school spirit t-shirts.
“We are much more than a packaging company. We take pride in putting people first and serving communities where we live and work. The Cottage School was selected due to its mission of serving students with special learning needs. We found this to be unique and very similar to our efforts to ensure that FedEx Ground is a place for everyone. We do our best to maintain an inclusive and equitable workforce, and when we are granted the opportunity to build community partnerships like this one with TCS, we run for it. We donate out of the kindness of our hearts when needs are present and are looking forward to continuing this partnership,” says Teairra Ballariel, training specialist at FedEx Ground.
The Cottage School is a 501(c)3 organization that prepares individuals for the fulfillment of their true potential as confident, productive, and independent adults. Located at the highest point in the City of Roswell, The Cottage School proudly commemorates 38 years of service to students and their families, a milestone made even more remarkable by the fact that just last year, they celebrated their 1,001st graduate since being established in 1985.
Their mission revolves around nurturing a strong sense of self among students with special learning needs through a combination of academic and experiential programming. They are dedicated to equipping individuals with the tools and confidence to reach their full potential, ultimately becoming independent, productive, and self-assured adults.
TCS stands out for providing an educational environment tailored to students with diverse learning needs. “If smart children learn differently, then the secret is to teach them differently,” says Dr. Steve Palmer, head of school for the past 9 years. Under Dr. Palmer’s leadership, TCS has experienced tremendous growth and has successfully built on the foundation of its mission. The Cottage School’s commitment lies in meeting each student at their individual learning point
because they acknowledge that every student possesses a unique way of learning. They embrace financial literacy, and their distinctive work-based and incentive-driven model creates the necessary behavioral support and fosters a social culture that empowers each student to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Aligned with the State of Georgia Standards for Graduation, they maintain small class sizes to facilitate optimal learning, striking a balance between rigorous academics and enriching afternoon experiential classes. Project-based learning programming seamlessly weaves together academics, communication skills, and creative expression, all while nurturing a sense of teamwork and achievement. Additionally, their comprehensive curriculum includes social skills classes, sports, clubs, electives such as eSports, music, culinary arts, horseback riding, and field trips, all aimed at supporting students in developing appropriate communication and interaction skills, consequently boosting their self-esteem.
