Get Organized!

A beautiful home doesn't have to be overwhelming

The holidays are such a great time of year: the family and friends, the food, the fun, and the gifts. However, sometimes January hits and you look around and realize those lovely new gifts need a space, a home to live, because they are quickly becoming clutter as they sit out and about. You might look around and not be sure where to begin. It can feel overwhelming, but don’t fear. Here are our best tips for home organization in the new year.

Start in the areas that are most visible. It is easy to get overwhelmed with organization projects. If you start in areas that are most visible, it will make an immediate impact that you see and that will help keep your motivation up. If you cook and bake a lot, start in the kitchen. If you like to have guests over, start in the entry room and sitting spaces. Organizing and clearing our the most commonly used spaces, will make your home more comfortable. As you enjoy those tidied spaces you will be more motivated to tackle the harder to deal with areas.

You might not need to organize, you might just need to declutter. It is the time of year that all the beautiful organization tools, bins, and caddies are on sale.  They are so lovely, but the cost can add up quickly. Though these organizational tools definitely have their place, a quicker organization tool is knowing that if a space looks cluttered, it is probably too full. If you remove some of the stuff, a space instantly feels more organized.

Don’t forget to do the dishes. Yes, you heard me. With all the hustle and the bustle of the holidays, it can be easy to get out of daily cleaning routines. If the house is feeling crazy, start with your typical cleaning routine. If you don’t have a cleaning routine, build one. Start simple though. Pick 3 simple jobs that make a big difference: do the dishes, sweep the floor, and wipe down the bathrooms. It will make more difference than you think, without being overwhelming. If you are short on time start with 10 minutes. You will be surprised at how much you can accomplish in 10 minutes.

Home organization doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Start with these 3 small tips. You’ll see the difference right away and it will make your home easier to navigate and more enjoyable to be in.
