Are the balmy early-summer days already making you dream of cold, refreshing, frosty adult beverages? If so, DVD Brew, a brand-new 5 BBL brewhouse and craft brewery—just off Loveland Madeira Road—is ready to quench your summertime thirst.
Owner and Brewhaus/Taphaus namesake Dana Vaughn Depenbrock has turned a 25-year passion for home brewing into his retirement dream. His goal is simple—to provide a beer for all tastes. And with more than 20 original brews on tap, he’s already on his way.
“We set out on a mission to share a love for craft beer with others,” explains Bobby King, DVD general manager. “We want this to be a hometown place where folks can come for a brew and hang out with their family and friends.”
And it was here in Loveland that they found that hometown vibe. “Dana wanted to find a place that would encompass what he was about and give his brews a good home,” says Bobby. “We’re right in between downtown Loveland and 275, making it the perfect location for our new brewery and taproom.”
The former Johnny’s Car Wash location has had a complete transformation, with an expansive bar, large wooden high-tops, roll-up doors, outside seating, and walls filled with TVs and an eclectic mix of memorabilia that Dana has collected over the years. And while there are no current plans to open a kitchen, customers will be happy to know there will be a rotating mix of food trucks on hand every day. Not to mention plenty of parking, Singo nights, music trivia and an FC Cincinnati pub partnership. Cheers to that, right?
Leading the charge from the brew deck is Keith Stark, DVD’s head brewmaster and the man behind the beer. But with so many tasty brews, all cleverly named after Dana’s family and friends, where does one start? Bobby suggests starting with the Gabby Ale—dark in color but actually a light and refreshing brew. The most requested beers on tap are the Chuckie Czech Pilsner and Mama Hen’s IPA. And Bobby’s personal favorite? “I love Walt’s White IPA, a newer brew that is amazing. But I haven’t found a beer I didn’t enjoy.” After our visit on a perfectly sunny afternoon, neither did we.
Their full list of on-tap beers is always online. Or better yet, grab a friend, a shady spot on the brew patio, and check it out for yourself.
