In the heart of the Valley, Macdonald Orthodontics has built a legacy rooted in family, community, and passion for creating confident, radiant smiles. Founded in 1974 by Dr. Edwin Macdonald, the practice has remained privately owned and operated, something Dr. Robert Macdonald says is increasingly rare in today’s corporate-driven world. And that independence matters." The business world does not give the kindness, nor the individual care that is given by
our private practice," says Dr. Macdonald. "We pride ourselves in creating a caring environment." That warmth can be found in everything they do. The mission of Macdonald Orthodontics is simple but deeply felt-to offer the highest quality orthodontics while maintaining a fun, caring atmosphere. It's a philosophy that extends far beyond the office. Office Manager, Tami Parnell, explains that their love for the Gilbert community is rooted in personal connections. “We have the pleasure of spending time with many kind families that become more than just patients; they are our friends,” she says. The practice is also involved in local schools, promoting oral hygiene and supporting PTO programs with both time and resources. “Besides creating beautiful smiles, we really get to know our community.” While orthodontics has long been associated with children and teens, the patient landscape is changing. Today, adults make up nearly 30% of orthodontic patients, and Dr. Macdonald sees clear reasons behind the trend. "Adults need straight teeth for their oral health and self-confidence, just as much as any other age group," he says. For some, braces were not financially accessible when they were kids; others find that teeth can shift later in life, even after previous orthodontic treatment. And in many cases, misalignment begins in adulthood. Whatever the reason, the effects can extend well beyond aesthetics. "If your teeth are misaligned, dentists have found that you could develop chewing problems, gum disease, tooth decay, and unnecessary tooth wear," he says. Meanwhile, a lot of adults are motivated by more personal causes, such as wanting to feel confident during a key life occasion, or simply enjoy loving their smile again." A beautiful new smile can be a huge confidence booster. For those leery of the appearance of traditional braces, Macdonald Orthodontics sees a growing trend in Invisalign for adults. "Many adults choose Invisalign because it offers a modern, virtually invisible solution that allows adults to achieve beautifully aligned teeth without disrupting their professional and social lives," says Dr. Macdonald. The aligners are designed with adult lifestyles in mind, providing treatment that fits into daily routines.

For anyone considering orthodontic treatment, Parnell has simple advice: “Don’t wait, just do it! The benefits of a straight smile affect your lifetime. Your smile is the first thing people see.” She emphasizes that treatment is more accessible than many realize. “We offer ‘creative’ financing,” she says. The practice accepts several forms of payment including most insurance plans, and the staff are happy to assist with claims. “We don't want cost to stand in your way of an amazing smile!” That supportive approach continues from the first consultation onward. "Getting started is easy," Parnell says. "Choosing to get orthodontic care is a big decision, and we respect your reasons for wanting to improve the way you look and feel."

The practice uses the latest orthodontic technology, making treatment less invasive, reducing time in the chair, and often shortening overall treatment time. "We pride ourselves on the excellence of our staff and the results we deliver."

Even as the orthodontic world becomes increasingly corporate, Macdonald Orthodontics shares its commitment to personal connection and individualized care that comes from being a family legacy. “We are very proud to say that we plan to stay privately owned,” Dr. Macdonald says.

Today, Macdonald Orthodontics proudly serves the Valley across three locations, continuing the tradition of exceptional, dedicated care began over 50 years ago, one beautiful smile at a time.
