Kale Luhrman, owner and co-founder of Control Pilates Studio, was deep in preparation for the Houston Marathon when a knee injury took her on a different wellness journey and career path.
Advised by her physical therapist to try Pilates, she started taking Classical Pilates classes at an Eve Gentry lineage studio in Wisconsin, even signing up for teacher training before moving to Houston.
Luhrman was trained in the lineage of Romana Kryzanowska through Alycea Ungaro's Real Pilates Teacher Training Program for more than 650 hours, in addition to her first 450 hours. Combined with her love of science and physiology, she dreamed of opening a Pilates studio in Houston that would offer private and small-group classes as well as classical teacher training to help others experience the transformative power of Classical Pilates.
Control Studios opened its first location in 2017, before finding its current home in the heart of River Oaks, and now offers the only classical Pilates teacher training program in Houston.
"One of the things that sets Classical Pilates apart from other Pilates techniques is the focus on alignment, safety, and mindfulness," explains Luhrman. "We want students to listen to and work with their bodies."
Designed with warm lighting and greenery intentionally spaced throughout the studio, classes feel cozy, warm, and serene.
One of the best gifts someone can give themselves or friends is the gift of self-focus. "Practicing Pilates helps students focus on the mind and body connection to replenish energy, which is so important at this busy time of year," explains Luhrman.
Pilates is the perfect complement to any wellness routine. "Three times a week for 10 weeks will transform how a person feels in their body, giving them a whole new sense of litheness and control." controlstudios.work
