How Will You Give Back?

local non-profits in need

Every community is upheld by people helping people. Without these altruistic individuals giving their time and energy to improve the world around them, we would be in dire straits indeed. Our community is no different, and there are several local organizations that are working to make our world a better world. What each of these amazing organizations have in common is that they need your help to continue helping others.

New Horizons

New Horizons is a non-profit that aims to provide vocational skills and training to individuals 16 and above with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They also work to maintain social and independent living skills, as well as connecting their patrons to various social and recreational activities to help broaden their horizons. If this mission speaks to your heart, there are many ways you can get involved. New Horizons is looking for volunteers to help at their resale shop, garden, skills training facility, special events, social activities, and Special Olympics. They also need help with funding and would appreciate donations of gently used home décor and furniture to be sold in their resale shop, a sponsored event where proceeds benefit New Horizons directly, or donations of money or in-kind services to help them to expand the community.

H-Town Dream Center

H-Town Dream center is a wonderful faith-based nonprofit that is doing their part to improve our community. They strive to help those who are impoverished and vulnerable. Their food pantry provides over 20,000 meals every week to those in need. Their House of Hope provides safe housing to women and children who are survivors of domestic abuse, human trafficking, or experiencing a crisis pregnancy. Their Community Center provides a safe space for under-resourced kids to come. They are asking for help, either by donating financially, advocating for them, or volunteers.

Mission Northeast

A great local non-profit is Mission Northeast, established in 1995. At Mission Northeast, they provide food, clothing, household essentials, adult education, job training, onsite ESL and GED programs, and a monthly home delivery for those who are homebound. This organization does this all for no cost to the patrons and is run entirely off donations. They are desperate for donations of good food and personal care items.
