For our Giving Back issue, we’re highlighting Somerset Hills businesses that support causes with a personal connection. For the teams at BLO Bernardsville, Twin Oaks Landscape & Design and J.Walker Salon Group, community involvement is part of how they stay connected to the people and organizations around them.
At BLO Bernardsville, the team supports Raise the Volume, an organization that helps Deaf students pursue higher education. The cause became especially meaningful through Nancy, a Deaf stylist whose experiences gave the team greater insight into some of the challenges Deaf individuals can face in education and the workplace.
The salon supports the organization’s scholarship efforts and volunteers at fundraising events, creating opportunities for the team to contribute beyond the salon itself.

Twin Oaks Landscape & Design takes a hands-on approach to giving back by using its landscaping expertise to support Habitat for Humanity and Somerset Children’s Center. The company has donated improvements such as walkways and gardens, putting its professional skills to work in ways that directly benefit local families and organizations.
For the Twin Oaks team, that means creating outdoor spaces that are safer, more functional and more welcoming for the people who use them.
J.Walker Salon Group has also made community involvement a longstanding priority. Owner Jessica Walker serves on the Heartworks Board of Directors and supports the organization’s work with individuals and families experiencing grief, illness, trauma and other difficult circumstances.
Over the years, J.Walker has also supported organizations including Diva for a Day, St. Baldrick’s Foundation, Dress for Success, CASA New Jersey and Raritan Valley Community College.
For Walker, that involvement has extended beyond fundraising to building ongoing relationships with organizations serving people throughout the region.
