Caring for Community, Conejo Valley Style

Caring for one another is a hallmark of the Conejo Valley, where friends and family show their support for community needs by participating in events and outreach activities of our area’s nonprofits. This month features events by three amazing organizations whose members give so much to improve the lives of countless individuals.

Cancer Support Community VVSB Celebration of Hope Garden Party

September 15

Los Robles Greens, Thousand Oaks

Join Cancer Support Community Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara at this year’s Celebration of Hope Garden Party. This memorable evening continues its tradition of bringing guests a bountiful dinner, abundant silent auction, spirited live auction, popular wine pull and the new Golden Ticket raffle, along with plenty of relationship building with colleagues, friends and loved ones. This event is anticipated to sell out, so get your tickets today!

Proceeds support the organization’s mission to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community. For over 33 years, Cancer Support Community has helped those in our community who have been impacted by cancer, by enhancing their health and well-being through a variety of evidence-based programs AT NO COST to them. These programs include professionally led support groups, wellness classes, educational workshops and social events.

For The Troops 11th Annual Heroes Golf Tournament

September 9, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Moorpark Country Club

Enjoy a day of golf and camaraderie at For The Troops’ 11th Annual Heroes Golf Tournament. More than 100 golfers and over 25 active-duty service members will play a round of golf to support For The Troops’ mission to send care packages to those serving our country abroad.

Check-in begins at 9 a.m., followed by the Shotgun Scramble at 11 a.m. For The Troops is looking for companies to sponsor an active-duty service member for $195, or a foursome for $780, or join the tournament to play along. Players can engage in friendly competition for prizes awarded for the longest drive, closest to the pin, and beat the pro putting contests.

The public is also invited to attend the reception and banquet after the tournament at 4:30 p.m. Banquet tickets are available for $60.

During the reception, an active-duty service member will share what it means to receive a care package.

“It’s always very touching hearing how much the care packages mean to our service members that receive them,” says For The Troops Founder and President Paula Cornell, adding that “All proceeds benefit sending more care packages.”

Medal of Honor Sponsors for the event include the nonprofit’s number one sponsor Logix Federal Credit Union, and the Bettie Gordon Neale Foundation.
