Giving back doesn’t have to be fancy to make a big difference, it just needs to be real, consistent, and full of heart. That’s what the New Braunfels Angels’ Love Box program is all about. It’s not a one-time gift or a quick drop-off. It’s an ongoing way to support foster families through simple acts of kindness, connection, and care.
When someone signs up to volunteer, they’re matched with a local foster family based on location and personality. It’s all about finding the right fit. Once matched, volunteers show up with a Love Box. This could include snacks, stylish clothes, games, handwritten notes, or anything that brings comfort and joy. It can even be as simple as the Shoe Box drive held right before school starts to ensure that every child has a new pair of shoes.
But it’s not just about the box. It’s also about building real relationships. Checking in, sharing meals, offering a listening ear, and being present. Finding that babysitter adds an extra layer of challenge as a foster parent, and the Love Box program alleviates that headache. With vetted babysitters or someone to just help clean up after a long day, the Love Box program and its volunteers becomes your village. And you can count on them to be your village as familiar faces almost become a part of your foster family, too.
Behind the scenes, the Angels team orchestrates resources and strategies, everything from educational tips to self-care ideas, to ensure families have the tools to flourish. And it works. 92% of families who get a Love Box say that it helps.
At its heart, Love Box is more than acts of kindness. It’s a signature style of giving back. It’s a chance to show love in action and to remind foster families that their work matters and they’re not doing it alone.
