When Roy Campbell got a call about the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post in desperate need of a new roof, he knew he wanted to help. The VFW Post 8905 buildings on Highway 290 are more than 50 years old and had roofs so leaky that veterans were getting water on their food during meal times. So when Roy, who owns Telge Roofing, saw the conditions firsthand he decided to donate two new roofs to help post leaders fulfill their mission of serving veterans.

“I’ve been blessed,” says Roy. “They’re right here in our backyard and we’re glad we can bless them.”

Telge Roofing recently completed the second of two roofing installations for the VFW this year. The first roof was an all-new shingle roof for a building that dates back to the 1940s. The shingles and building top were so rotted that workers had to strip the roofing down the rafters and replace decaying wood before installing brand new shingles from GAF, Telge Roofing’s premium roofing supplier. The second roof was for the VFW’s larger hall. Telge Roofing replaced a rusty 60-year-old roof with an attractive red standing seam metal roof. Both roofs are backed by a 50-year warranty from GAF.

The new roofs will allow the VFW to continue its dedication to local veterans and the community at large. The group offers regular steak dinners, member meetings and bingo games inside the facilities. Since the new roof installation, the post is now approved to serve as a Harris County emergency shelter.

“The mission of doing more for veterans than any other organization is accomplished,” said Joshua Wilcox, post commander, in a video interview on Telge Roofing’s YouTube Channel.

Roy’s decision to help install the new roofs fits with the values of Telge Roofing as a whole. The company believes in giving back to the community and treating customers like family. Telge Roofing has more than 45,000 customers and even earned a Two-Star Certified Presidential Status recognition from GAF for excellence in installation, reliability and service. As such, Telge Roofing represents the top half percent of roofers in the country, according to GAF. In the coming years, Roy hopes to earn the GAF’s Three-Star Certified Presidential Status, the highest level of distinction from GAF.
