The holiday season is underway, so it’s time to start thinking about gifts!
Have you made your list and checked it twice?
You probably have at least a few people on the list who are difficult to shop for.
What do you get that person who has everything?
Or the person who is impossible to please?
One great solution is to give a gift that gives back. Plenty of amazing organizations are doing great work right here on the Gulf Coast, and supporting them is a great way to show you care.
And let’s face it. It’s always nice to receive a gift with some thought behind it.
So, if you’re stuck on what to get that special someone this holiday season, consider supporting one (or all!) of these amazing nonprofits. Not only will your purchase help support their programs, but you’ll also be giving a unique and heartfelt gift.
Say goodbye to uninspired gifts and hello to presents with purpose!
Mercy House Global
Mercy House Global is dedicated to helping women internationally who are in need, with a focus on those the Bible speaks of as being most vulnerable: orphans, refugees and widows. The nonprofit provides employment opportunities, training and discipleship. It’s also working to fight trafficking. If you want to make a difference this holiday season, the organization sells handmade candles, jewelry and other items created by artisan groups in Kenya. See what’s available at shop.mercyhouseglobal.org.
Refuge for Women Texas Gulf Coast
Refuge for Women Texas Gulf Coast is also dedicated to the fight against human trafficking and working to restore women’s lives. The nonprofit, faith-based organization provides safety, shelter and support to survivors of trafficking or sexual exploitation. It also provides education, internships, job placement assistance and training. Its goal is to help women rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. To shop for artisan candles and leather goods crafted by survivors, visit survivormade.org.
The Center for Pursuit
The Center for Pursuit helps adults with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), and similar conditions choose their own paths and become independent. Gingersnaps etc., an enterprise of The Center, sells baked goods packaged in a gold tin and decorated with an ornamental topper handcrafted by artisans who are part of the center’s programs. To order, visit centerforpursuit.org/gingersnaps. Unsure what to order? The cheesesnaps and gingersnaps come highly recommended by the Houston Chronicle, Saveur Magazine, The New York Times and other publications across the country.
There you have it. Three great Gulf Coast organizations making a difference in the Houston area and beyond.
The impact each of these nonprofits has is tremendous, and your holiday gift can help support their ongoing efforts. So, before you click “add to cart” on that same old gift you give every year, purchase one with purpose.
Your friends, loved ones and the artisans who crafted it will appreciate it!
