Whether you’re a lifelong Rockwall resident or just passing through, one thing’s for sure—this city knows how to do parks right. With a mission “to provide a variety of safe, attractive, outdoor recreation facilities, municipal grounds, quality leisure activities, non-transportation routes, and the preservation of our community greenbelt to exceed our customers’ expectations,” Rockwall Parks and Recreation is delivering on its promise in a big way. And if you haven’t taken advantage of it yet—this is your sign.

From tree-lined nature preserves to expansive green lawns, peaceful ponds, and playgrounds that spark every kind of adventure, Rockwall’s outdoor spaces offer something for everyone. Many parks feature thoughtfully designed accessible playscapes with ramps, modified swings, and sign-language signage, ensuring kids of all abilities have a place to run, laugh, and explore. You’ll also find shaded pickleball courts, open fields for soccer or tag, and wide-open lawns perfect for a weekend picnic. And while you’re exploring, don’t miss one of the eight butterfly gardens scattered throughout town—designed to support migrating monarchs as they journey to their seasonal homes.

And for grownups looking to recharge? There are trails for walking, jogging, and even mountain biking. You’ll find disc golf courses, areas for water sports on Lake Ray Hubbard, and plenty of spots to soak in the Texas skies and stars.

This guide highlights some of our favorite places across Rockwall—each one full of charm, heart, and just waiting to be your new weekend go-to. Whether you’re planning a solo escape, a family playdate, a romantic sunset walk, or an afternoon with your pup, Rockwall’s parks are ready. So lace up your sneakers, grab your water bottle (and maybe a snack), and go explore.

Shores Park
This neighborhood gem is a favorite with local families! The open lawn is perfect for tag, soccer, or laying out a picnic blanket. Kids love the bouldering area, and the basketball court stays busy with friendly games all afternoon. It’s simple, fun, and the kind of spot that feels like home.

Pettinger Nature Preserve
Bring the bug spray and soak in the shade at Pettinger! This quiet preserve is perfect for nature walks, birdwatching, or a solo picnic on the trail. You’ll feel the temperature drop as soon as you step onto the tree-lined dirt path—it’s that peaceful.

Trails at Squabble Creek
Adventurers, this one’s for you! Just a few minutes from the preserve, this park offers several miles of scenic bike trails. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned cyclist, you’ll find a route that works for you. Visit in spring to see bluebonnets bloom right by the parking lot.

Harry Myers Park
Packed with shaded pickleball courts and an impressive playground, this award-winning park is a family favorite. Miss Abby’s Place is all about inclusive design—from ramps and ninja walls to zip lines and accessible swings. And the dog park is full of enrichment spots for furry friends of all sizes.

Yellowjacket Park
Yellowjacket Park near Rockwall High is a low-key playground with thoughtful design. It features multiple accessible play zones for kids of all ages. Parking can be tricky on game days, but it’s a great place to run around while keeping an eye on the score.

Rockwall Harbor
Not your traditional park—but a must-visit spot! Stroll the shoreline of Lake Ray Hubbard, grab dinner with a view, and stay for the stunning sunsets or the summer concert series. With its mix of nature and nightlife, Rockwall Harbor is pure magic.

Don’t forget to look at the city’s special programs like the Angel League, which gives kids with special needs the opportunity to participate in baseball in a fun, encouraging environment. Want to learn more about the parks and programs? Check out playrockwall.com
