Golf Club of Georgia

The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta is a secluded enclave for the true golf enthusiast features 36 holes of award-winning golf and provides the ultimate test for players of all skill levels. We sat down with owner Ben Kenny to get caught up on what’s new at the Club.

AL: The scenic and challenging Lakeside Course and Creekside Course have been consistently ranked among the Top 12 Best Golf Courses in the state annually by Golf Digest. What will returning golfers find new or improved since last summer?

BK: The conditions of both courses are superior.  The greens are spectacular as are the overall views from tee to green.

After a recent and comprehensive $40 million revitalization project, the Club has a state-of-the-art 56,000 square-foot clubhouse features new and enhanced architecture and decor creating a warm, welcoming Carolina Lodge atmosphere.

AL: Which hole has the most beautiful view?

BK: The 12th hole on our Lakeside Course.  This hole sits on the edge of Lake Windward.  The view is amazing from tee to green.  The green appears to be perched on the lake.

AL: When golfers work up an appetite, what are the dining options for players, members, and guests?

BK: The Grill, an inviting restaurant in a rustic setting between two stack stone fireplaces serving a wide-ranging menu. The new Muirfield Porch offers unobstructed views of the Great Lawn with its floor to ceiling windows which can be fully opened for easy out access during outings and events. The Cellar 91 is available for private dining and wine tastings. The Men's Grill and spacious Men's Locker Room areas have been fully renovated and the new Greenside Tavern is a chic indoor/outdoor bar with newly landscaped outdoor spaces. The Greenside Patio has magnificent views of the Lakeside #9 and #18 holes and the new and spacious double driving range highlighted by the brand new Cupp Golf Academy.

AL: Can golfers book tee times online?  What other changes have you made to ensure safe and healthy golfing?

BK: The Golf Club of Georgia is private, but members can book tee times online.  To ensure safe and healthy golfing we have and continue to follow all the government guidelines for Coronavirus safety.  We have purchased UV lamps to kill viruses in the Clubhouse, the same model used in New York subways.

AL: The Golf Club of Georgia is home to the annual Georgia Cup and Collegiate Invitational. Both highly competitive events have created a tradition of competitive excellence and have been staged at the club for years. These events have witnessed play from future PGA TOUR stars including Sergio Garcia, Rickie Fowler, Ryan Moore, Matt Kuchar, Ricky Barnes, and many others.  For experienced golfers, which holes offer the most challenges?

BK:  Hole numbers 8 and 15 on our Creekside course are the most challenging, but are very fair and scenic.

AL:  For novices, which holes offer the most opportunities to par?

BK: Hole number 8 on Lakeside and hole number 7 on Creekside offer players the best opportunity for a par.
