Golfing for Good

Hit the Links for Fun and Purpose at the West Chester Hospital Fall Classic Golf Outing

Golf outings are plentiful this time of year, but none are quite like the Annual West Chester Hospital Fall Classic Golf Outing featuring the Mason Deerfield Chamber’s "Taste of MADE." It's so much more than a typical golf outing: there is fun at every hole, including gourmet appetizers and beverages provided by local restaurants, friendly competitions supporting local nonprofits and unexpected activities like golf-ball-shooting cannons.

“You never know what’s waiting for you at the next hole,” says Tom Daskalakis, chief administrative officer of UC Health’s West Chester Hospital and board chair of MADE Chamber. “Golfers and non-golfers alike get involved in this event. It isn’t stuffy; it’s a really fun event!” Tom adds.

In its eighth year, the golf outing has grown not only by adding golfers but also by expanding the scope and participation of its community partners.

“Businesses and nonprofits from West Chester, Liberty Township, and Mason and Deerfield Township come together and collaborate to benefit all the communities. People love to see these types of cooperative initiatives," says Sherry Taylor, MADE Chamber president and CEO.

Reinvesting in the community is the golf outing’s ultimate goal.

“We are a community entity that serves our region, so the benefits should be shared among the communities we serve,” Tom says.

A portion of the proceeds will provide scholarships for two area students to further their training in the health care field. Additional funds raised will support hospital enhancements that directly affect patient services such as purchasing cutting-edge equipment.

“The impact is monumental. It crosses so many different groups. There’s not just one beneficiary. It is truly a partnership event," Sherry says. "The businesses, restaurants and nonprofits participating, the scholarship recipients, the hospital and all four communities benefit from this collaborative event.”

The City of Mason Golf Center is the location for the Sept. 27 event, which runs from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. The Golf Center has earned recognition as one of the region’s premier courses. The $185 individual entrance fee includes breakfast, an 18-hole shotgun start, the "Taste of MADE" featuring gourmet bites and cold beverages throughout the course, contests, prizes and an afternoon awards ceremony and reception with heavy hors d’ oeuvres.
