"Sing it high, sing it low
Sing from deep within my soul.
Sing it loud and make it clear,
Sing so everyone can hear."
And so she does, and has done for more than 45 years. The name Oleta Adams is likely familiar, she recorded "Woman in Chains" with Tears for Fears, sang "New York State of Mind" with Phil Collins on drums, covered "Get Here" which became an unofficial anthem of the Gulf War, toured with both Phil Collins and Tears for Fears. She is featured on the Elton John/Bernie Taupin tribute album Two Rooms, performing their hit "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me."
Her talents go far beyond popular music, crossing between genres of gospel, soul, R&B, urban, and is an accomplished pianist. She will be performing at the Lone Tree Arts Center on February 18, 2022, as the fourth installment of international musician and local resident Gerald Albright's Lone Tree Sessions series. When we spoke to Gerald Albright in the early phases of the pandemic (see December 2020 issue), his stated goal was to bring more jazz to the southern metro area and Douglas County. And sure enough, he has.
"I'm truly excited to have a jazz series at the Lone Tree Art Center. I have the opportunity to bring some of my dear friends to this great venue to perform for some of their biggest fans. It's a true delight for those who attend, and also serves as a great educational experience," Gerald says.
Gerald and Oleta have been been dear friends for 30 years. They performed together at jazz festivals throughout those years, including the landmark 1998 Phil Collins Big Band International Tour.
"Oleta is one of the unique treasures of our music industry. There's only one Oleta," Gerald says. "You know her voice immediately when you hear it, and it transcends to many genres of music. She's polished and a true joy to work with."
New and longtime fans can find out more about Gerald's 2022 season at geraldalbright.com/tour. Gerald says, "The 2022 season is shaping up nicely, and I hope to see all of my fans this year."
Oleta is also on tour in 2022, making up for missed dates in 2020. Find her at oletaadams.com
The Lone Tree Arts Center is excited to bring many other acts to the stage in 2022.
