There is a moment at almost every Thanksgiving table — right before the first plate is passed — when someone asks everyone to say what they’re thankful for. The answers vary, but they almost always circle back to the same thing: family. The people who raised us, the ones who show up, the empty chairs we still set a place for in our hearts.

That instinct to pause and give thanks isn’t just a Thanksgiving tradition. It’s one of the most human things we do — and at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, Cemetery & Cremation Services, we believe it’s also where gratitude and remembrance meet.

For generations, our family has cared for Gainesville families through their most tender moments — helping them say goodbye, yes, but just as often helping them hold on to the stories, the traditions, the legacy of the people who shaped them. Every headstone, every niche, every bench beneath an oak is thankfulness made permanent: a way of saying, you mattered, and we remember.

A memorial gives that gratitude an address — a sacred place shaded by the same oaks, where a family can come back on the days that matter. Or, indoors, a glass-front niche where photographs and keepsakes stay on
display.

The morning of a wedding. The week a baby is born. An ordinary Tuesday when someone is simply on your
mind. Some families stop by on the way to Thanksgiving dinner, before the house fills with noise.

Planning ahead is thankfulness in advance — so that when the time comes, your family is free to simply grieve and remember. In that spirit, Forest Meadows has set this November aside as Family Thanksgiving Appreciation Month, a thank-you to the families who have trusted ours for 70 years. Through November, families who purchase or plan ahead will find $1,000 off any cemetery plot and $500 off a glass-front niche or a cremation bench, with monthly payments available. Call (352) 378-2528.

Gratitude this season reaches those who served. As Veterans Day approaches, we give thanks for the men and women who sacrificed for our freedom — and Forest Meadows is proud to offer every veteran a free grave space and help securing VA benefits, including military honors.

This Thanksgiving, as you count your blessings, we hope you’ll remember that family is worth celebrating
not just once a year, but in the way we care for one another. From our family to yours.
