Grateful Triumph:

Journey from Heartbreak to Miss Grand USA

Cora Griffen’s rise to becoming the first woman from Georgia to win the Miss Grand USA title is a story of grit, determination, and deep gratitude. As an Afro-Andean woman and the first in her family to graduate from college, this Columbus, Georgia native’s journey has been anything but ordinary.

Losing her father at a young age deeply impacted her life. After earning her degree in political science from Auburn University, where she was also a cheerleader, Cora faced a tough road.

Through it all, her mother has been her rock. "I’m the confident and independent woman I am today because of her exemplary character and demonstration of faith," Cora reflected on their bond.

Cora briefly worked at a law firm before taking on the role of Miss Georgia USA in 2022. Now, at just 28 years old, she’s an editor, writer, model, media personality, and the founder of Chandié, a home fragrance line.

“Winning Miss Grand USA isn’t just about the crown,” Cora explained. “It’s about proving to myself that perseverance and faith can open doors you never thought possible. I’m beyond grateful for the people who’ve been in my corner, pushing me forward, even when I doubted myself. Without them, I wouldn’t be here.”

Dr. Candace Thomas, Miss Grand Georgia USA State Director is one of those people.“Cora’s faith is unshakable, and that’s what sets her apart. She doesn’t just talk about gratitude—she lives it. I’m grateful to work with someone who understands that this journey is about more than just the here and now; it’s about creating opportunities for the future and appreciating every step along the way.”

As Cora gears up to represent the USA this fall at Miss Grand International in Thailand, her story is a reminder that success isn’t just about talent or luck. Cora’s message is clear: Stay true to your vision and remain thankful, even when challenges seem insurmountable.
