When Julie Chambers left her career as a public school music teacher in 2014, she walked away from something many people spend a lifetime pursuing: a stable job, benefits, and a clear retirement path! Almost everyone told her not to do it. "I really wanted to be able to make a bigger impact," says Chambers. "I felt limited."
What began as private lessons taught from her home has grown into Chambers Music Studio, a thriving studio with three locations, including its newest location in Worthington. The studio's growth reflects Julie's commitment to creating a learning environment where every decision is guided by what helps students succeed and thrive.
But the road wasn't easy. Julie built the business while raising three children—Amelia, 10; Brendan, 7; and Callahan, 4—balancing family with entrepreneurship. She quickly outgrew her home studio and searched for commercial spaces that would allow the sounds of kids & their music lessons. She closed on her first studio location in Bexley the month the pandemic forced businesses across the country to shut their doors.
Instead of giving up, she kept moving forward. As a mother, educator, and business owner, Julie understands what parents are seeking for their children. Confidence, growth, and the ability for their child to discover passions, develop discipline, and experience success. That understanding has shaped Chambers Music Studio into far more than a place to learn an instrument. It has become a place where children are encouraged, celebrated, and inspired to reach their potential.
At the heart of the studio is a philosophy Julie calls "Life at Chambers." "Most of the time when you take private lessons, they have education in their instrument, but not in education," she explains.
At Chambers Music Studio, instructors receive ongoing training, attend staff development sessions, utilize teaching guides, and participate in regular meetings focused on improving the student experience. "We lean heavily into training," says Chambers. "We pay for our teachers to attend trainings."

Children can begin with Mommy & Me Music Time classes, advance into Jam Band and the Piano Keys programs, and eventually progress to private lessons, ensembles, and higher-level musical instruction.
Rather than simply enrolling students in lessons and hoping they stay engaged, the studio provides a clear roadmap for growth. For Julie, that structure emerged from an important realization. "While we were seeing progress, families didn't always see it," she says.

Today, students earn milestone recognition, families receive more visibility into progress, and performances have evolved into larger community-centered events designed to showcase achievements.The approach reflects Julie's broader philosophy of continuous improvement. "We're always growing, and that's what we expect from our students," she says.
