After successfully launching KidStrong in the West End of Richmond last year, Midlothian residents Amy and Rich Young decided to expand by opening a second location closer to home. Opening this month, KidStrong in Midlothian is the perfect spot for a children’s gym. “We live in Midlothian and wanted to bring a program to our community that empowers children and their families,” Rich explains. “Our goal is to engage in the community through youth programs, schools, and local events, serving as an outlet for families to give children the independence, confidence, and strength needed to tackle whatever life throws at them.”

KidStrong is a gym dedicated to helping children develop physically and mentally through 45-minute classes emphasizing physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. Founded by Matt and Megin Sharp to assist their daughter, the program integrates essential fitness, character development, and brain training skills while fostering teamwork, leadership, and confidence. With guidance from experts in child development and sports physiology, KidStrong places a strong emphasis on parental involvement and offers science-based coaching aimed at family success. Now spanning the U.S., the program seeks to inspire the youth of America.

As they embark on this latest venture, Amy and Rich intend to demonstrate that their approach is effective for every child. They believe the program’s success stems from its focus on character, cognitive, and physical development facilitated by high-caliber and engaging coaching. Designed by child development experts, KidStrong aims to enhance physical, emotional, and mental skills, with evidence showing that all kids exhibit growth through these milestones. KidStrong Nation continues to grow, and they’re excited about what Midlothian is about to experience.

Inclusivity and support for children of all backgrounds and abilities are core principles at KidStrong. Amy and Rich ensure they hire professional coaches with diverse backgrounds who possess a passion for child development and education. “Our goal is to focus on the whole child because when you give kids the foundation, they become well-rounded, confident individuals!” Amy emphasizes. “KidStrong is designed to help kids feel what it’s like to reach their full potential.” KidStrong cultivates a coaching culture centered on collaboration with parents to identify and promote their child's goals and needs.
