Aspen Luzier is a wife, mother, entrepreneur, and mental health advocate. Born and raised off the coast in Cocoa Beach, Florida, Aspen has always been a creator by heart. Having a tough childhood, creating is what kept her daydreaming of a colorful, limitless, and abundant world. With her husband being a rockstar drummer in a touring band, the pair are no strangers to excitement and adventure. After residing in Los Angeles, they decided to head south and have called Music City home for a decade now. Giving up her career when her son was born is something she shares was a bit isolating, but also drove her to do what she was truly passionate about. In 2018, Aspen began a non-profit called Rebel For A Change - an organization dedicated to loving somebody through addiction. While it was healing for her in many ways, she shares that she best connected with others through sharing her own story – which, after a while, became a bit taxing. After a couple years of pouring her soul into the organization, she decided she may need to take her healing journey in a different direction.
While she wouldn't go back to change a single thing, Aspen knows all too well what it looked like to give up her industry career for the sake of being a "Happy Little Mother." When 2020 came knocking, she seamlessly fell right in line with her rainbow-creating, inner child. As we all sat in solitude, isolated from the world in which we created for ourselves, Aspen, now a mother of two, had a shift in her motherly routine; school was canceled, touring was canceled, and her workload as a mother and wife seemed endless. With her husband now home, swooping into the father role he could never be when touring, it gave her space to find her identity again. At the pandemic's beginning, Aspen found so much joy creating with her kids. While using social media to share their projects, she nudged the idea of creating a product that she and her kids could sell. They would spend their days tie-dyeing up the most beautiful fabrics and come night, she would cut the fabric into bandannas and cross-stitch "Mother" onto each one. What began as a fun, little project with her kids quickly grew into something beyond her imagination. In addition to the bandanas, Aspen flourished into creating her staple piece, the original hand-stamped “Mother” Tag Necklace, which launched Mother's Day 2020. Four years later, Happy Little Mother is thriving in sales both online and through her retro pop-up truck she takes around town!
Aspen continued to share that the driving force behind Happy Little Mother has always been the connections she has made from the community within. She describes the strong emotion she feels knowing other mothers are resonating with her story, and loves being able to hear their stories as well. She shares that the power and ignition is always inside someone, and she wants to remind other moms out there that it’s been sitting within them... they just need to unlock it.
“I talk a lot about healing that inner child. It’s beautiful when you become a mother that you get to re-mother your inner child while walking alongside motherhood with your own children. It’s really cool to show my kids that you can build a business this way… you can be open and talk about your feelings and that is very acceptable.” Aspen explains.
Aspen describes that each step in her life has led her to this full-circle journey. Always wanting to be a part of something bigger than herself, Happy Little Mother has partnered with Mamaya Health, a virtual mental health platform dedicated to providing specialized care for maternal mental health. Together, they have created a scholarship fund, Vote For Mother, and a portion of the collection proceeds help fund this scholarship. This initiative offers financial assistance to women for therapy, supporting mothers, and women wanting to become mothers. The partnership is already making a significant impact, helping women access the care they need. In addition to this huge milestone, Aspen is thrilled to share that Happy Little Mother will soon be available in stores across Tennessee, Florida, and California!
“That has been one of the most incredible pieces of this puzzle… pulling the aspects of Rebel For A Change and being able to give back to this world of women and mothers,” Aspen shares. “I’m still sharing all the heartache and difficult parts – along with the wins and the beauty - of what it looks like to be a mother, but in a creative way that allows other people to realize different ways to express themselves, too.”
As time is a constant, so is the importance of branding her identity in a seemingly saturated market. By doing so, authenticity to her inner child will remain true throughout her creations. In an abundant world of peace and love, Aspen knows this place is unlocked within, and from her craft of Happy Little Mother, it's her mission to help others find their rainbow and keep it close to their heart too.
