While many homeowners are getting their HVAC winter checkup, many homeowners often forget to get their recommended yearly chimney cleaning.  In addition to preventing fires, cleaning your chimney can also help prevent blockages that can result in carbon monoxide poisoning,

It is recommended regardless of chimney type, that you should you have your chimney swept at least one time a year. If you have oil or wood burning fireplaces, many say that you should clean those twice a year, depending on usage.

After an unscientific survey by homeowners from starter homes to multimillion dollar homes, the most common response to when was the last time you had your chimney cleaned was:

 never,

I think when we moved in,

we have gas so don't need to,

we don't use our fireplace that much.

So, if you don't remember the last time, you had your chimney cleaned, just know that you are not alone but maybe consider getting it cleaned soon, or at least consider a free inspection.

Most companies offer free inspections and $99 seems to be the norm for cleaning.   Maybe a good time to put it on your to do list. It is always a good idea to have your chimney inspected and cleaned when buying or selling your home.
