Plant Health Care

When it comes to health, we often correlate it with that of ourselves, friends and family, as well as the health and longevity of our home, pets and vehicles. But one of the less talked about areas of health is that of our plants and trees – both those that we've planted in our yard and those that are pre-existing on our property.

We know that if there is an insect-infested tree on our property we need to call a professional to get the infected areas pruned or have the entire tree removed. While it is essential to have a dead tree removed for safety reasons – not to mention the poor curb appeal it creates – plant health care is a proactive approach that can offer diagnosis, treatment and management of insects, pests and diseases as well as preventative maintenance with deep root soil injection of fertilizers and insecticides.

Treemasters Tree Service, a trusted name in Medina County and the surrounding areas for more than 20 years, recently added plant health care to their already substantial list of services to provide these proactive measures.

Treemasters owner, Rob Graham, says that he added this new service to provide his clients with complete tree health care.

"Through our plant health care and, really, everything we do, we focus on overall property management," he explains. "This means that we try to find the problems before they exist; we find the insects before they do the damage. Instead of treating a tree for everything and anything, we really take the time to look for the potential problem so that we aren't just spraying things unnecessarily."

To oversee Treemasters's plant health care division, Rob hired Troy Muth, a certified arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture, in July 2020. Troy has more than 30 years of experience in the green industry and has been licensed for over 25 years through the Ohio Department of Agriculture to professionally apply chemicals to trees, shrubs and industrial vegetation.

"Because of [Troy's] over 30 years of history and knowledge of tree health, he is able to bring a lot of experience to our team," Rob says.

In addition to hiring Troy, Rob purchased new equipment for the plant health care division of Treemasters so the company could spray treat trees as high up as 60 feet.

Rob adds that in addition to this new equipment, he has the ability to provide an "injection treatment" to the trunk of a tree, allowing for immediate results and, more importantly, low environmental impact because the chemicals are injected directly into the tree.

Rob says that some of the most common treatments he administers in this region are for Emerald Ash Borer, needle cast disease in evergreens, apple scab for apple trees, scale and oak wilt disease.

While this new division of Treemasters can provide treatment and health care maintenance to older trees, it can also be extremely beneficial for younger trees. Troy explains that it helps them stay healthy and can increase their longevity. It can also significantly improve the strength and structure with proper maintenance over the life of the tree.

In addition to plant health care, Treemasters offers tree pruning, tree removal, stump grinding, cabling and bracing, land clearing and emergency services.
