Artist. Nurse. Entrepreneur. Role Model. These are just a few ways to describe Ashley Donnaurnmo, a 35-year-old single mother and the owner of Posh Ink Permanent Cosmetics. The business, which opened in June 2021, is a culmination of Ashley’s creative background, passion for helping people and determination to show her daughters (Chloe, 16, and Ellie, 5) that the sky’s the limit.

“I was a nurse for 14 years. When COVID hit, it made me rethink my career and future,” she says. “I have to set a strong woman example and lead the way.”

In 2019, Ashley got microblading, a form of tattooing that utilizes a handheld tool to deposit ink into the skin to replicate eyebrow hair. As someone who felt insecure about her looks growing up, she wishes she would have realized the benefits of permanent makeup sooner.

“It really changed my life, and I wanted to be able to provide that to other people,” Ashley says. “It’s a different type of art — a good combination with nursing.”

Specializing in natural-looking permanent makeup and corrective and cosmetic tattooing, Ashley is the sole artist at Posh Ink. She’s saving the second chair for Chloe, who dreams of being a tattoo artist.

“My daughter is a huge inspiration for me. A lot of this was done with her in mind,” she says, adding that Chloe has some medical conditions that physically affect her capabilities. “I wanted her to be able to do something she loves and not feel limited in any way.”

Her younger daughter, Ellie, was born a leader. She’s going to run the place one day, Ashley laughs, adding that when she started the business, she was most nervous about her daughters seeing her fail. Her advice for women?

“Fake that confidence and just go for it,” she says. “I like to pretend I’m somebody else who I look up to. In my mind, I’m Taylor Swift, and nobody can stop me.”

Posh Ink’s services range from microblading to custom eye, lip blush, beauty mark and eyeliner tattooing. Soon, she’ll also be offering scar and stretch mark camouflage (a talent she’ll utilize to help a friend who was burned from a car accident) and 3-D areola tattooing, which she’ll perform on her best friend who recently had a double mastectomy.

“It’s really important for me to help people build their self-esteem,” she says. “You do more things for yourself and treat yourself better when you feel more confident.”

One of Posh Ink’s first clients, Yvonna Meshekow, fills with teary-eyed joy when she describes the impact Ashley has had on her life. Yvonna, who was recently diagnosed with skin cancer, has had a rough year. She’s getting through it, she says, but she wouldn’t have the confidence she does today without the eyebrow, eyelid and lip tattoo services Ashley provided.

“She changed the way I feel about myself inside,” Yvonna says. “What she gave me when I stepped out of that chair, no medical doctor or procedure has been able to give me.”
