Inclusive Ropes Course at at Camp Campbell Gard Celebrates First Anniversary

Do you love outdoor adventures? One of our county’s most exciting attractions lies just a few miles to our north at Camp Campbell Gard (CCG) in Hamilton.

Last April, CCG opened a new, state-of-the-art high ropes course. It features a zip line, zip swing, rock wall and three levels of high-ropes obstacles.

The course is the tallest of its kind in the region, reaching up to 49 feet high. Obstacles range in difficulty and height to accommodate those of all abilities and adventure levels.

Pete Fasano, executive director at CCG, says, “It’s incredible. Standing at the top in the crow’s nest, you feel completely secure and self-empowered. You feel confident in yourself and proud of yourself. It’s just a really great feeling.”

One of the biggest benefits of the new course is the increased accessibility for all people. It’s now easier to access than the previous system, and it accommodates more people at a time across the various levels. The universal access system makes parts of the structure open to campers with developmental disabilities.

“We had no real opportunity for our kids who use wheelchairs on the previous course,” says Pete. “This system will not only allow them to zipline, but there’s a component that will allow them to traverse the course. It’s an opportunity that is very cutting edge.”
