The Aiken City Lifestyle Team Talk Holiday Traditions

From making my mom’s famous eggnog to donning matching family plaid shirts, the Bryan family embraces Christmas traditions. But none are so dear as the annual meeting of "Papa’s Christmas Sweater Club." Since my dad’s passing years ago, my kids and I have honored his memory by wearing his treasured Christmas sweaters when we gather for our Christmas Eve celebration. Some years it is easier to fit in the sweaters than others based on how much eggnog we’ve enjoyed! Also, Santa appears at my house every year on Christmas Eve.

We have our big family night with cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandmother on Christmas Adam (Adam comes before Eve), with a big meal and gifts. Then, on Christmas Eve, just the four of us go to a movie and eat out somewhere fun, like a Japanese restaurant or Waffle House.

My favorite Christmas tradition is Christmas Eve. We always go to a candlelight Christmas Eve service at NewSpring Church. Afterwards we pick up Chinese takeout and go home and bake Christmas cookies. We end the night with cookies, glass bottle cokes and a Christmas movie with our kids.

My family bakes fresh cookies while watching Christmas movies every Christmas Eve. Right before we go to bed we throw out *magic* reindeer mix so Santa's reindeer see our house first!

My family does communion Christmas morning before we exchange gifts. 'Tis the reason for the season.
