Monica Walters was four years old when she first donned a beekeeper suit on her family bee farm in Princeton, Texas. This experience resonated with her so much that when reports of the honeybee’s decline surfaced in the early 2000s, Monica felt compelled to reconnect with her childhood passion.

“I started Home and Hive as a live bee removal business to help people safely remove bees from their homes while preserving the bee population,” Monica explains. “There wasn’t a local company offering this service—especially not one that was woman-owned,” she continued. Home and Hive began solely to remove honeybees and relocate them – not exterminate them. Monica worked with beekeepers and bee groups finding places to relocate bees. The part-time hobby quickly grew into a full-time business.

As such, clients inquired if Home and Hive could do other services, including taking care of wasp nests and other pest control needs. Monica notes, “We had the ladders, equipment, a lot of the same licensing,” but it had not occurred to her and her husband, Mitchell, to expand into the pest control side.

The couple knew the surrounding area had many reputable pest control businesses; however, Home and Hive could provide an additional unique service, thus they decided to expand operations in 2023. Mitchell left behind his corporate job to manage the pest control side making Home and Hive a true family business.

The Walters live in Celina with their young son, who is known to follow in his mom’s footsteps and wear a bee suit on occasion. Having lived in the community since 2017, they believe in the importance of shopping and referring local. “We constantly ask ourselves, ‘How would we want to be treated as customers?” Monica reflects. Mitchell agrees stating their biggest drive is how to achieve results, so customers say, “This is the best pest control business I have ever used!”

Their strategy is to use “big chain company” customer complaints as guidance of what they don’t want. The Walters can then create strong customer service, provide clear communications, plus offer an excellent pest control product. “We thought we could really thrive in that environment,” said Mitchell. “To live here and know people here, we felt like we could grow with referrals and serve the community as well. We want to be viewed as a quality brand,” he continued. It is one of the many positives of the community. “It is what keeps us up at night,” Monica reiterates. “What can we do to make it better, structure it better for our employees and customers? We try to keep the same employee in the accounts, so the customer and technician build a relationship with one another,” she continued.

While both sides of the businesses are doing well, the pest control division operates separately from the bee removal service, ensuring that honeybee preservation is never compromised. Their eco-friendly approach extends beyond bees. Home and Hive uses mosquito control solutions made from essential oils and other environmentally safe products, applying chemicals only in areas that do not affect pollinators. In addition to pest control and bee removal, the company also offers solutions for small critters like mice, rats, and squirrels.

Home and Hive is your local source for outstanding pest control and bee removal services. Monica understands many decisions in the home are made by women. As a woman-owned business, she understands the importance of offering a service that feels trustworthy and approachable. At its core, Home and Hive is about more than pest control—it’s about family, community, and a commitment to doing things the right way.
