Customizing, Retrofitting Play for Courts of All Sorts

Chris Castleman loves bringing people together—whether to play a quick game of basketball or pickleball, or relax on a personal putting green.

“We see people of all ages and backgrounds being active together,” he proudly shares. “People whose paths might not have crossed, had they not been on one of our courts playing together.”

“It’s pretty special.”

Chris and his Cincinnati Sportscapes team specialize in creating, maintaining and transforming existing outdoor play areas for both home and public enjoyment.

In fact, there’s a good chance you’ve already seen some of his handiwork. “We’ve done jobs for Dayton VA Medical Center and Summit Hills Country Club. We have a big court in Loveland at Arrowhead Trails, along the bike trail,” he says. Cincinnati Sportscapes also showcased its work at the Cincinnati Home + Garden Show, and were part of Loveland’s HOMEARAMA at ChimneyRidge in 2022.

“I was in the hardscape and landscape business for about 20 years, and have worked on a lot of outdoor living spaces and patios,” he says. “And that’s where it transitioned.” After having a project in mind for his own home about eight years ago, Chris learned about VersaCourt, an organization that custom-creates play area components—Chris quickly became an exclusive dealer.

“We pride ourselves on working directly with all of our clients, from beginning to end,” Chris says. “We’re excited to offer our revamping and creative services throughout Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Indiana.”

All courts are custom-produced, and take about 4–6 weeks to be prepared. That timeframe allows Chris and his team to be on-site, taking care of prepwork and planning. “It’s a seamless process,” he explains. “From the time we first meet until the first game is ready.”

Cincinnati Sportscapes is able to accommodate both large and small requests, from hundred-square-foot spaces to projects totalling thousands of square feet.

Feeling up for a life-size chess match? Chris can make it happen.

“We get a lot of requests to update existing, old double tennis courts, which have become underutilized,” he says. “We come in, totally revamp it, and retrofit for any number of additional sports—hopscotch, basketball, putting greens, pickleball …”

At the end of the day, what really matters to Chris and his team is providing friends and neighbors with a safe place to play, relax and enjoy life to its fullest.

“Our work really brings communities together—it encourages people to shut off their electronic devices, go outside, and have fun!”

Popular Requests? Think Big.
Cincinnati Sportscapes offers unlimited potential when it comes to setting up sports and play areas.

Pickleball Courts
“The minimum recommended space for a pickleball court is 24' x 54'—and the ideal size would be 30' x 60',” Chris says. “The latter size also accommodates multi-sport play, and can include half-court basketball regulation game lines.”

Customized Courts
“People ask us, ‘We have a small yard but still want to play. What are our options?’ We fully customize and tailor each court to your specific needs—when it comes to size, color and design, all our courts are custom-made for the available space.”

Upgraded Tennis Courts
“We can design a new court to be installed over an existing surface,” Chris says. “We bring any old court back to life with a lifespan four times that of a typical court space.”

Beyond the Court
“Some want a backyard that incorporates both court and landscaping—our in-house team can completely transform that space.”
