While large-scale renovations and huge transformations tend to get all of the fanfare, home upgrades can still make your space feel new. Plus, they’re great investments in the future. We talked with three local experts, Floor Coverings International—Cincinnati East, IC-Roofing and the Glass Guru about six simple, yet impactful updates.
Shower Glass
New bath or shower glass can take your bathroom from functional to spa-like. Whether you need to finish up a remodel, make a repair or replace outdated glass, the Glass Guru estimators and installers will treat your project with care. Showers are all custom made with several door types to choose from: European (mostly glass), semi- frameless, barn door style or panel-only. “Our most popular shower doors are European,” says Lisa Chambers, co-owner of the Glass Guru. “They have the least amount of metal and provide the cleanest look.”
Window Repair
Windows that are fogging or losing their seal can impact the comfort of your home and your wallet. At Glass Guru, they focus on restore, repair and replace. “We have a process called Moisture Removal where we restore the double pane unit that has lost its seal,” explains Lisa. “If the window doesn't qualify for that, we replace just the glass and make it look brand new.” Window parts and hardware can also be replaced so the unit works smoothly. The best part: restoring and repairing these issues should add 10-20 years to your windows.
Luxury Vinyl Planks
The hottest flooring category is luxury vinyl planks (LVP). They are an affordable, easy care and waterproof flooring option, perfect for active households. The nicer offerings have great visuals, textures and a painted bevel, making each plank stand out. LVP are also floating floors, meaning they are not glued down and can be walked on right after install. Floor Coverings International local franchise owner Katie Fitzgerald shares, “Light, neutral colors that mix tans and greys are popular in LVP, and people are beginning to go beyond the kitchen and bathroom for a seamless look throughout their homes.”
Stair Runners
Floor Coverings International can create custom stair runners out of any carpets they sell. “We typically make them out of nylon or wool carpets for the most durable fibers,” says Katie. They also have multiple options for binding the edges depending on the desired look. Stair runners are great for adding style and aesthetics, but also for slip resistance, protection and sound damping. Don’t be afraid to go bold with patterns. “This helps the stair runner stand out and become a nice focal point in the home,” explains Katie.
Roofing
A new roof can be a big home investment, but usually one that pays off by adding value. Local, woman/minority-owned business IC-Roofing recommends replacing a roof at least every 20 years. They also offer service and repairs, and won’t replace an entire roof if a simple change-out of damaged shingles fixes the issue. If it is time to replace, their Good, Better, Best program allows them to assist homeowners with any budget. “We’ve been in business for more than 10 years and have a thorough knowledge of all roofing materials and options,” says installer and project manager, Will Hein.
Siding
Siding serves multiple purposes, from protecting house frames from moisture that can cause damage and mold growth, to keeping a home comfortable in all kinds of weather. It also covers large portions of the exterior, making a siding upgrade a great way to improve curb appeal. Having IC-Roofing assess your home’s exterior can pinpoint issues that may save money on future repairs, as well as help you understand the siding options and materials available to you.
From tiered roof and siding pricing options, to glass repair and restore capabilities and one-stop floor covering shopping that comes directly to your home, these local businesses will give you fresh perspectives for approaching your next home upgrades.
