Homemade Vanilla Extract
Every household should have some quality vanilla extract on hand, and what’s greater quality than homemade with love? I prefer madagascar bourbon vanilla beans and online retailers offer great prices on glass bottles. Once you’ve gathered your bottles and vanilla beans, you need a quick trip to the liquor store for a bottle of 150+ proof grain alcohol.
For an 8 oz bottle, I use 6-8 whole vanilla beans. I cut each end off and run a shallow slice though the outer skin of the bean before placing in the jar. Size cut depends on your jar.
Pour the grain alcohol over the beans until the bottle is full. Wait 3-6+ months.
