Honoring Legacy & Building Community

A Conversation with Anthony Sweat

For Anthony Sweat, community service is a family legacy. The James H. Sweat Foundation (JHS) was founded by Anthony to honor his grandfather and create a lasting impact across generations. "My grandfather taught me that a meaningful life is measured by what you give back," he says. “Our focus on youth and senior citizens reflects two groups that are the fabric of our communities. Young people represent our future and need mentorship, while seniors represent our history and deserve to be honored. The young learn from those who came before, and older generations are inspired by the energy of the next."

Anthony values every initiative, from scholarships to community outreach, but the foundation's Weekend Sacks program is special. “This is a new program I am implementing in Richmond County Schools, modeled after the Food for Kids program in Columbia County," he says. "Last year, we launched the program at Meadowbrook Elementary as our pilot school, providing weekend food sacks to 48 students. This year, that number has grown to 114 students.” The future goal is to eventually expand into more Richmond County Schools to ensure that children across Augusta have access to food over the weekend.

During this giving season, local volunteers and sponsors are essential. “The truth is projects like the Danny Black Golf Classic don't happen because of one person or one organization, they happen because an entire community is willing to come together and invest their time, resources, and heart into something bigger than themselves," Anthony shares.

JHS aims to deepen its impact through education, athletics, and its Young at Heart senior program, backed by local sponsors and volunteers like those supporting the annual Danny Black Golf Classic.

Anthony is also bringing his passion to the stage for SafeHomes of Augusta’s Fake It To Make It lip-sync competition. Aiming to take home all three championship belts with "Team Sweat" (featuring Aaron Fearneyhough, Heather Ferrante, Pam Lightsey, and Judy Teasley), he embraces the fun for a vital cause.
