For many families, experiencing the unexpected loss of a child late in pregnancy is an unspoken heartbreak, one that reshapes every part of life. But the Walk With Me Foundation has made it their mission to ensure no one has to navigate that journey alone. Founded by a family who welcomed and said goodbye to their newborn son, Logan, within the same hour, Walk With Me was created from personal experience and the deep desire to help others find support, healing and community.
Over the past decade, the organization has walked alongside more than 600 families with personalized programs that meet their needs in some of life’s most tender moments. From keepsake memory kits and counseling resources to funeral assistance and long-term community support, their holistic approach ensures families are cared for both emotionally and practically.
For Justin and Mary Hill, that care arrived at a time when they needed it most. After a joyful pregnancy and months of preparation, they were ready to meet their daughter, Charlotte Ann, affectionately known as “Charli.” But days before their induction, their lives shifted unexpectedly. During their hospital stay, Walk With Me volunteers gently entered their story, offering comfort, resources, and something many others couldn’t, shared understanding.
“We didn’t feel alone, even though we felt lost,” Justin recalls. “Walk With Me gave us something our well-meaning friends and family couldn’t, a connection to others who truly understood what we were going through.”
Through keepsakes like their beloved “Charlotte Bear” and peer-led support gatherings, the Hills found a safe space to process, reflect, and remember. And when the world around them resumed its pace, Walk With Me continued showing up, month after month, with thoughtful touches that reminded them they were not forgotten.
That compassion sparked a shift in Justin’s life. With a background in human resources and hotel management, he decided to start fresh, building a new path with Apex Energy Solutions that offered both flexibility and purpose. He chose to turn his work into something that would honor Charlotte and support other families through Walk With Me. Today, he donates $100 from each window project to the foundation, sponsors events, and speaks out to help other parents feel seen and supported.
“A big fear for parents is that their baby’s name or story won’t be remembered,” he says. “So I make sure people do remember.”
The Hills have since grown their family, welcoming their son Charles Thomas in December 2022, named in loving tribute to his big sister. While every child brings their own light, the experience of welcoming another child comes with layers of emotion and renewed appreciation for what it means to hold life closely.
For the Hills, giving back through Walk With Me has become more than an act of service, it’s part of their family legacy. Whether attending remembrance walks, helping assemble memory boxes, or sharing their story with newly grieving families, they’re committed to shining a light in the darkness for others. “It’s not just about what Walk With Me did for us,” Mary shares. “It’s about what we can now do for someone else, even if it’s just letting them know we see them.”
That ripple effect is at the heart of the foundation’s impact. Many of the volunteers and peer supporters have walked this road themselves, creating a circle of empathy and strength that grows with every story shared. It’s a place where tears are welcome, milestones are honored, and even the smallest lives are celebrated with enduring love.
As the foundation looks ahead, its mission remains rooted in the belief that healing happens in community. Through annual events, family retreats, and ongoing outreach, Walk With Me continues to hold space for grief while nurturing hope, reminding families that even in the quietest heartbreaks, they are never walking alone.
Justin’s journey is just one of many that Walk With Me has impacted over the years. And it’s stories like his that keep the foundation grounded in its mission: to provide consistent, compassionate care, from the first days of grief to the lifelong journey of remembering, healing, and honoring.
Walk With Me doesn’t exist because of loss, it exists because of love. And through meaningful partnerships with families and businesses like Apex Energy Solutions, that love continues to grow and reach more families with every step.
