Houston Ballet Academy invites families to experience the magic of ballet with My First Ballet: The Nutcracker, a delightful, one-hour adaptation designed especially for young audiences. Featuring talented students from Houston Ballet II and the Academy Professional Program, performances take place on April 12 and 13, 2025, at the Margaret Alkek Williams Center for Dance.

As part of Houston Ballet’s commitment to accessibility, a special Sensory-Friendly performance will be held on Sunday, April 13, at 11 a.m. This performance is designed to accommodate individuals with neurological differences by offering adjusted lighting and sound levels, relaxed theater rules, and trained volunteers to support attendees. Pre- and post-performance activities will also enhance the experience, allowing guests to engage further with the production. To help prepare attendees, Houston Ballet provides a study guide and social narrative, offering valuable insights and activities before and after the performance.

"We are thrilled to offer these special performances, ensuring that all children and families have the opportunity to experience the magic of ballet in a welcoming and supportive setting," said Lauren Anderson, Associate Director of Education and Community Engagement. "Our goal is to create an inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy and connect with the arts."

This enchanting production, choreographed by Houston Ballet II Ballet Master Claudio Muñoz, follows Clara’s magical journey to the Land of Snow, where she meets the Sugar Plum Fairy. It provides an ideal introduction to ballet for children ages 2-8, fostering a love for dance in an engaging and accessible format.
