How Long Does Hardwood Floor Refinishing Take?
Hardwood refinishing is a multi-stage project. The most useful schedule tells you when work starts, when the last coat is applied, and when you can return to normal use. Those are different milestones.
The size of the job, preparation, repairs, selected products, and drying conditions affect the schedule. Avoid planning a furniture delivery around a generic online timeline. Ask for dates based on your floor and the finish being used.
What happens during the project?
A refinishing project generally includes preparing the area, addressing necessary repairs, sanding, and applying the selected finishing system. The process includes work around the edges as well as the main floor area; it is more than running a machine through the center of a room. Source: Norton Abrasives
Before work begins, settle practical details. Who empties the rooms? Where will the furniture go? Will you have access to the kitchen, bathroom, and exterior doors? Are there stairs or hallways that everyone normally uses?
These questions are especially useful when planning work around guests, a move, or another renovation.
Drying and curing are different
Being ready for a later coat, light foot traffic, furniture, and rugs can involve different waiting periods. Follow the instructions for the exact finish system and the contractor's guidance for actual conditions. A manufacturer's timing example for one product should not be treated as a universal rule. Ask for the return-to-use instructions in writing. Include pets and heavy furniture in that conversation, along with any planned rug placement.
What about staying in the home?
Discuss occupancy before booking. Room access, ventilation requirements, the products used, and your household's needs all belong in the plan. Do not assume that dust-controlled sanding alone answers every question about staying in the home.
Arkstone uses dust-controlled sanding as part of its refinishing service. Ask how the work area will be prepared and what cleanup is included so you understand the process from the beginning.
Plan backward from your deadline
If you want the room ready for Thanksgiving, tell us when furniture and rugs need to be back in place—not just when you want sanding finished. The same applies to a move-in date or a scheduled gathering.
