I Call It a Gift

What Began With an Unexpected Opportunity Became a Way To Create, Connect, and Open Doors for Others

I never dreamed of owning Golden Hour Live Art.

Business owners are taught to tell the story differently—to say we had a dream, believed in it, worked hard, and made it happen.

But that’s not my story.

Golden Hour wasn’t something I dreamed up. It was an opportunity that appeared at an unexpected time in my life. In 2019, after leaving corporate America and moving with my family to the Texas Hill Country, I found myself wanting to paint. Then I was asked to paint live at a wedding—on-site, while the celebration was happening—a type of art I had never tried and didn’t even know existed.

Some people thought I was crazy for considering it. But I saw other artists doing it successfully and thought, why not me?

So I said yes.

Seven years later, I’m still following that yes.

What began with one artist and a paintbrush has grown into a team of talented women creating live art experiences for weddings, corporate events, and celebrations throughout Texas and beyond. We capture wedding scenes as they unfold, paint watercolor portraits of guests, engrave keepsakes, hand-paint bottles, and explore new ways to make art part of the experience rather than simply something you see afterward.

But somewhere along the way, I realized the greatest gift wasn’t simply getting to make a living creating art.

It was having something I could share.

As Golden Hour grew, I began bringing other artists alongside me—women with different styles, stories, and extraordinary talent. Giving them opportunities to create, earn income doing something they love, and see the value of their own talent has given this business a purpose I never anticipated.

And strangely enough, giving the gift away has only made it bigger.

I’ve worked incredibly hard to build Golden Hour, but hard work doesn’t explain every client who took a chance on me, every unexpected referral, every artist who found us, or every door that opened at just the right time.

That’s why I call it a gift.

And perhaps the best gifts aren’t really ours to keep.

Golden Hour began with one unexpected opportunity. Today, I get to share it with our artists, our clients, and the people who allow us into some of the most meaningful moments of their lives.

I may never completely understand why this gift found me.

I don’t think I need to.

My job is simply to keep passing it on.
