I Want To...

/Forgive Myself

When experiencing setbacks, don’t spend unnecessary energy dwelling on them. Beating yourself up for perceived failures will not help you succeed. Pick yourself up and reset your mindset. If it helps, say, “I forgive you; you'll do better next time,” out loud to yourself. Start over each day in a fresh way. Check out a book regarding forgiveness at Chesterfield's Library.

/Start Journaling

Writing down personal thoughts for further reflection can achieve so many positive results, such as evoking mindfulness; tracking steps toward achieving goals; boosting memory and comprehension; strengthening self-discipline; improving communication skills; and self-healing. Set aside a few minutes to select, or make, a truly inspiring journal/diary—one that will whisper, "hello there again," every time you open it.

/Celebrate Chinese New Year

For the year 2020, the main zodiac element is metal, and the animal sign is Rat. The Chinese year will last from Jan. 25, 2020, to Feb.11, 2021. Rat is the first in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. Years of the Rat include 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020 and 2032. People born during Years of the Rat are believed to be very industrious, thrifty, diligent and positive. This online source provides Chinese New Year myths, taboos, what to wear, history, little known tidbits, what to eat, and how to write and say the phrase in Chinese. Regionally, the Missouri Botanical Garden is hosting Chinese Culture Days during April 27-28.

/Try Yoga At Least Once

There are many styles of yoga—power, Iyengar, Jivamukti, freedom flow, yin, restorative, ashtanga, Sivananda, Bikram, prenatal—even goat yoga. While there are several yoga-related businesses located in Chesterfield, one nearby neighborhood business sometimes hosts free yoga classes for all levels of expertise, which makes it easy to at least experience yoga with no long-term commitment.

/Secure New Art

Art is in the eye of the beholder, and so many selections of art forms can add new, beneficial dimensions to day-to-day life. Consider the variety of art that can be selected from a local gallery, whose coalition of regional artists routinely provide new exhibits, gift ideas, juried open parties, events and classes. The gallery's owner says they provide gift certificates and can ship to nearly anywhere in the world.

/Support A Charity

Wondering which cause to support? This online source allows searches of nonprofits by filters for both donating and volunteerism, with causes ranging from animals, health conditions, food, literacy and international efforts to domestic violence, sports, economic development, mental health and voting rights. GreatNonprofits is itself a registered nonprofit. One of the best aspects of this online source is that it's community-based, so seekers can read statements or see clips from those directly involved in the various charitable entities. The site essentially provides crowdsourced information about the reputability of the available organizations.
