When it comes time to furnish and decorate a home or business, few people include insects, pests, and rodents as part of the design plan. In fact, most people don’t think of them at all. One innovative approach Peachtree uses is the YardSMART mosquito management program. “Some pest control or mosquito companies use misters to treat shrubbery and foliage around somebody's home,” explains Shelby. “The mosquito reduction devices we use recreate an ideal habitat for mosquitoes but controlling the population.” This is done using mosquito management stations that interrupt the maturation cycle of mosquito larvae, preventing them from developing into adults and reducing future mosquito populations.
Using the Anticimex SMART Pest Control solution is another way Peachtree stays on the cutting edge of pest control technology. “We are moving away from using unsightly rodent boxes with rodenticides in them and using the SMART detection system,” says Shelby. “The system uses infrared sensors to alert us of rodent activity so that we can get ahead of an infestation before it occurs.”
These innovative systems and eco-friendly approaches all focus on addressing the source of the problem and not simply treating what you see on the surface. “We use Integrated Pest Management which relies on doing a thorough inspection of the property, knowing the biology of insects and understanding where they're coming from, and identifying the root cause instead of putting unnecessary chemical at somebody's home,” she says. “But the most important part of what we do is building a relationship with our customers. Anybody can go out, put product down, and hope for the best, but we want to work together to find the source of issues. So if there are tree branches touching a home and it’s the source of a pest problem, having the customer's cooperation to be able to remedy things on their end that might not be on under our realm is crucial to having success with pest control.”
This year, Peachtree Pest Control is celebrating its 50th anniversary of serving and partnering with customers. “We are giving back to the community that has supported us and helped us grow over the last half a century with a program we call ‘50 For 50’. We're doing fifty acts of community service in the various communities we serve through sponsorship of youth sports, conducting clothing and food drives, and building bikes for underprivileged children – to name a few. We’ve even adopted a honeybee hive at a farm in Waynesboro, and we are excited to watch the Peachtree hive grow.”
