What set you on your career path?

I was working full-time at St. Luke's and making cookies after work and on the weekend, and I realized I had to cut back somewhere. With support at home and my St. Luke's family at work, I was able to go part-time at the hospital so I could continue to grow my cookie business, Lindy's Traveling Treats. That was fall 2016—one of the scariest and most rewarding things I have ever done!

What are you proud of?

I am proud that at the age of 37 I discovered my passion, and at the age of 38, I was brave enough to pursue it full-time. I think I am most proud of the example I am setting for my daughters, teaching them that you can do anything you set your mind to and to find a tribe that promotes growth and supports you. I really believe that it takes a village, and I am so blessed to have an amazing, diverse village supporting me.

What advice would you give to aspiring business owners?

My biggest piece of advice is to set boundaries for yourself so that your passion is always that; burnout can sneak up on you.

I am still learning how to balance family and work. I'd say that it’s important to reflect on why you started your own business. For me, it was to have a more flexible schedule to allow me more time with my family. I often get caught up taking too many orders, working late nights and putting my family second. It’s a continuous struggle as I try to unlock the secret of a healthy work/life balance. I guess I'd say to keep on keeping on and try to do better tomorrow than you did today.
