Design Meets Personality

Taylor Rice focuses on designing beautiful spaces that compliment personality

Mysa Design Group is a local interior design firm that specializes in residential renovations, new construction homes, and home furnishing projects. Owner Taylor Rice has a mission to bring classic, natural, and sustainable design to homes, creating environments that reflect the unique personality of her clients, while also nurturing our planet. Rice's personality is reflected in the design style she chose in building her own home alongside her husband. Here Rice explains the choices she made while designing her home.

1: I chose cedar siding as it is durable, naturally beautiful, and environmentally friendly with a resistance to moisture and decay.

2: Floating shelves are a beautiful way to display plants, cookbooks, and decor. I especially love to switch decor based on the season.

3:  The most important part of designing our kitchen was to ensure it felt warm, inviting, and timeless. The best way to achieve this was to bring the outdoors in. I opted for a honed, matte finish on the countertops instead of polished. The backsplash is wood instead of tile. The cabinets are an earthy, calming color.

4. While most of the design choices leaned towards the modern, Scandinavian style, I opted for a classic touch with the faucet and apron front sink. The contrast of the polished nickel finish against the wood backsplash makes it even more of a statement piece.

5. A piece like this adds character and is unbeatable by any shiny, new object. Whether vintage or passed down, I like to incorporate unique items into my projects. I have many pieces and art from my grandparents that will always remind me of them. This is one of many ways a home can tell a story of those who live within it.

6. I wanted the range hood to be a standout feature and add texture to the kitchen, but without a heavy contrast. Installing a tambour wood while maintaining the stain color was the winning combination. It’s just as much a conversation piece as it is part of the background.
