Into the Wild: Weekend Escapes

Your next travel adventure is just a car ride away

Are you itching to get out of the house, explore the state of Oregon, create memories that will last a lifetime and possibly start yearly traditions? Oregon offers many weekend getaways but these are the ones that take the cake and pique the interests of many. Adventure awaits you and your family, so pack up, put on some travel tunes and enjoy your escape. 

1. Milo McIver State Park

The Milo McIver State Park offers a wonderful weekend getaway for avid hikers, campers, bikers, boaters and kayakers. The park offers tent sites with showers and bathrooms nearby, boat ramps and an ADA fishing dock, trails that line the water and horse specific trails if your prefer to ride instead of walk. 

2. Skamania Lodge 

Skamania Lodge, located in the Gorge, offers a magical experience from lodge rooms to treehouse stays, to much needed spa trips, delicious buffets, golf, ziplining and hiking. 

3. Brasada Ranch 

Brasada is a luxury ranch located in Central Oregon. They offer cabins, bungalows and ranch houses to stay in, have an 18-hole golf course, horseback riding, an athletic center, spa and plenty of trails to choose from. 

4. Explore 

Manzanita offers plenty of adventure from Nehalem Bay and Oswald West State Parks. From private to public beaches, camping and RV sites, horseback riding, and hikes that take you up to Neahkahnie mountain, the exploration is endless. Public beach access is in downtown Manzanita with plenty of parking space and enough beach for late night campfires, swimming, surfing and beach games. 

5. Eats 

The food in Manzanita ranges from Thai food to sweet crepes, with plenty of in between options. Yolk, Bunk House and Manzanita News and Espresso offer wonderful breakfast food, El Trio Loco 2 serves Mexican food, Big Wave Cafe has fresh seafood to choose from, RustyMoose and San Dune Pub serve American food and beer, and Manzanita Cones and Coffee serves fresh ice cream and warm waffle cones. These are only a few of the many places to stop and eat in downtown Manzanita. 

6. Shops 

When walking along the main street in Manzanita, you are met with dozens of shops to choose from that all offer different items. The T-Spot is a funky shop that offers knick knacks, clothes, accessories and comical items. Finnesterre and Moxie offer more expensive items with Moxie housing trinkets and clothes from all around the world. Bahama Mama's sells beach attire and beach bike rentals. Manzanita Sweets, right next to Toylandia, sells delicious salt water taffy and other goodies.
