Is It Time To Spruce Up Your Home?

I’m Hillary Rose, professional organizer and owner of Spruce Up, LLC. I help busy women in Colorado Springs minimize clutter and organize their homes. When you spruce up your home, it propels you to spruce up your life.

Here are the four steps I use with my clients:

1. Visualize

Visualize the space by clearing out all items and reimagining the system that works best for you.

It’s difficult to imagine spaces any other way than the way you currently see them. When you clear out a space, you can brainstorm new ways of storing things that make sense for you and your home. I know it sounds like a hassle, but trust me, it’s worth it!

2. Categorize

Categorize items that belong together, sorting like with like.

It’s helpful to consider micro-organization vs. macro-organization during this step. Micro-organization is great for people who like categories and subcategories, such as separating batteries by size. Macro-organization is great for people who like “big picture” organization, such as simply keeping all batteries together.

3. Minimize

Minimize by decluttering items that you no longer love, need, or use.

This step is essential. Clutter occupies precious space both in your home and in your life. When you clear clutter, you clear not only physical space in your home, but mental and emotional space in yourself. Saying goodbye to things from the past allows you to live in the present and prepare for the future. When you let go of inconsequential physical things in your home, you also are better equipped to let go of significant emotional things in your life that no longer serve you.

4. Organize

Organize the remaining items!

This is the final step of the Spruce Up system. Many people are excited to jump into organizing right away, but I believe it works best to visualize, categorize, and minimize before we think about how to organize it all. When organizing, I consider aesthetics and functionality, as well as specific things like the space itself and the people who use it. I explore different ways of organizing with my clients until we find a system that feels comfortable, doable, and maintainable!

Disorganization in your home can impact your mind, your health, your personal goals, your schedule, your job, and even your relationships. My goal is to help you spruce up your external surroundings and create space and clarity to work on other areas of your life – both external and internal.

Are you ready to Spruce Up? I think you’ll love the results!
